For travellers
Search by the details that matter to you. Hotel profiles will explain what a property offers, what it does not, and when its information was last checked.
The directory is taking shape
We’re preparing clear, useful profiles before publishing the first stays. Join the updates list and we’ll let you know when browsing opens.
A category label is a guide to the information a hotel shares. It is not a guarantee that every guest will have the same experience.
Eight ways to look closer
Different people need different things from a stay. These categories make it easier to find the information you want to check before you book.
Clear details for trans, non-binary and gender diverse guests.
Information to help guests understand how a property welcomes different relationships.
Practical notes on sensory settings, routines and communication.
Details about alcohol-free options and the atmosphere guests can expect.
Helpful information for people travelling on their own.
Pet policies, accepted animals, fees, restrictions and access areas.
A clear description of the property’s age policy and adult-focused offer.
Specific access information, including what is and is not available.
Every profile should give useful specifics. A badge alone cannot describe a whole stay.
The Default OFF certificate
Programme in development
This is a planned overview. Criteria, timing and fees will be confirmed before applications open.
The certificate is being designed to recognise a hotel’s work in a specific category. A hotel will need to meet the relevant criteria and provide evidence. Paying for a review or improvement support will not, by itself, earn a certificate.
We’ll publish what each category means and what a badge does and does not say. The detailed questionnaire and scoring tools can stay within the private review process.
Tell us about the hotel and the category you want to explore.
Complete the relevant questions and receive a confidential view of strengths and gaps.
Use the findings to plan practical changes and gather supporting evidence.
We review the evidence against the published category criteria.
If the requirements are met, the hotel can display the certificate and approved badge for its stated scope.
Specific, current and honest. A public certificate should show its category, scope, status and review date. It should never read as a blanket promise about every guest’s experience.

About Default OFF
Default OFF is building a clearer way for people to find hotel stays that suit them, and for hotels to show how they welcome different guests.
We believe useful details should be easier to find before someone books. Our aim is to make those details more visible, support thoughtful improvements, and recognise specific work with care.
